OKLAHOMA CITY (OBV) – Oklahoma City Community College and Mercedes-Benz USA entered a partnership to enhance automotive service technician training at the college.

Curriculum specific to Mercedes-Benz automobiles will become part of OCCC’s Automotive Technician Internship Program (ATIP) this spring.

The training will enable OCCC automotive students to earn Mercedes-Benz factory specific certifications which will better prepare them to work in Mercedes-Benz service centers across Oklahoma.

“With the addition of Mercedes-Benz, our program now offers training in seven different manufacturers for a total of 14 brands,” said Brad Walker, department chair for automotive technology at OCCC. “Our program helps meet the workforce demand for skilled automotive technicians.”

OCCC’s Automotive Technician Internship Program provides training on vehicles from the following manufacturers and their brands: General Motors (Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac); Honda (Honda and Acura); Nissan (Nissan and Infinity); Toyota (Toyota and Lexus); Hyundai (Hyundai and Genesis); Subaru; and Mercedes.

OCCC’s ATIP is offered with day and night classes. Students can start the program any time in the school year. Classroom and lab experiences provide hands-on training. Students are required to work in an independent shop, a franchise, fleet shop or dealership to fulfill the program’s on-the-job training portion.

“OCCC is working to meet the demand for a skilled workforce in the automotive technology industry,” said John Claybon, OCCC dean of business and information technology. “Oklahoma City Community College offers flexible and affordable programs taught by top-notch instructors using state-of-the-art equipment and facilities.”
