OKLAHOMA CITY (OBV) – An Oklahoma native who has lengthy experience in Hollywood film productions has been hired to lead One Set Studio in Oklahoma City.

Tāva Maloy Sofsky is the new director of One Set Studio, a virtual production studio equipped with massive LED walls that can render super high definition backgrounds for a wide range of productions, including movies, television shows, commercials, music videos and company advertising and growth campaigns.

One Set Studio is an initiative of Public Strategies. Sofsky will lead One Set as the studio expands its presence within Oklahoma’s growing entertainment industry.

“One Set Studio has arrived at the perfect moment for this region,” Sofsky said. “We are poised not only to create our own quality productions, but also to complement the capacity of nearby creatives, optimizing how they produce all forms of media.”

Sofsky was the director for the Oklahoma Film + Music Office and the Cherokee Film Commission in the past decade. Her time in Hollywood includes production work on a range of major features, including serving as an associate producer on The Mask of Zorro, production manager on The Fast and the Furious, associate to the producer on Drop Zone and Money Train and assistant to producers on Jack, according to her IMDB page.

“Sofsky’s caliber of talent—combined with the studio’s sophisticated technology and talented production team—positions us to contribute to the future of Oklahoma’s creative industries,” said Mary Myrick, president and CEO of Public Strategies. “It underscores that next-level virtual production and storytelling can be readily done right here in our state.”

One Set is Oklahoma City’s first virtual production studio. It has a 40 foot by 13 foot LED wall with a 2.5 millimeter pixel pitch that displays backgrounds in the highest definition.

The studio enables filmmakers to film scenes in any environment without actually having to go to that faraway location.

One Set is a full production space, offering ample open space in front of the LED screen for actors to act and filmmakers to add elements that would enhance the scene, making it more realistic.

The Oklahoma Film + Music Office designated One Set Studio as a certified soundstage, therefore enabling productions eligible for the Filmed in Oklahoma Act of 2021 to receive a 5 percent uplift on their cash rebate if they film at One Set.

The Filmed in Oklahoma Act of 2021 gives a maximum of $30 million in cash rebates to film and television productions shot in Oklahoma each fiscal year, which is from July 1 to June 30, for 10 years. A production must spend over $50,000 in the state to qualify for the rebate.

Film and television production has grown significantly in Oklahoma in recent years. The following film and television productions are the major highlights:

  • The summer blockbuster Twisters was shot in Oklahoma.
  • The first season of the Paramount Plus show Tulsa King was filmed in Tulsa, Oklahoma City and other in-state areas.
  • The popular FX television show Reservation Dogs is shot in the Sooner State, specifically in Okmulgee.
  • The critically-acclaimed feature film Killers of the Flower Moon, directed by legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro and Brendan Fraser, filmed in several locations across Oklahoma, including Bartlesville, Fairfax, Osage County, Pawhuska and Tulsa.
  • Current theatrical release Reagan was filmed almost entirely in Guthrie.

Go to the One Set Studio website for more information on acquiring its services.
