OKLAHOMA CITY (OBV) – Oklahoma City Community College celebrated the addition of Mercedes-Benz USA to its automotive technician training curriculum.

OCCC introduced curriculum that specifically teaches students maintenance on Mercedes-Benz vehicles last Spring.

The college recently held a celebration to honor Mercedes-Benz joining the school’s automotive curriculum. Students, faculty and Mercedes-Benz representatives attended the celebration.

“Oklahoma City Community College deeply values our industry partnerships,” said Dr. Mautra Staley Jones, president of OCCC. “We are grateful for support from Mercedes-Benz USA to prepare our students to meet the demands of the automotive industry.”

The Mercedes-Benz curriculum is part of the college’s existing Automotive Technician Internship Program (ATIP), according to OCCC personnel.

Students who participate in the course can earn Mercedes-Benz factory-specific certifications that will equip them with the skills they need to attain jobs in Mercedes-Benz service centers in Oklahoma.

OCCC students can begin ATIP classes at any time of the school year. Classes are offered at both day and night.

Hands-on training is encouraged in both classrooms and labs. Students must work in an independent shop, a franchise, fleet shop or dealership to fulfill the program’s on-the-job training portion.

“OCCC is working to meet the demand for a skilled workforce in the automotive technology industry,” said John Claybon, OCCC dean of business and information technology. “Oklahoma City Community College offers flexible and affordable programs taught by top-notch instructors using state-of-the-art equipment and facilities.”

ATIP offers training in the following seven manufacturers for a total of 14 brands: General Motors (Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac); Honda (Honda and Acura); Nissan (Nissan and Infinity); Toyota (Toyota and Lexus); Hyundai (Hyundai and Genesis); Subaru; and Mercedes-Benz.

OCCC is the most affordable community college in the state. School officials recently announced that the school is keeping its tuition rate flat for the seventh straight year. It will remain $135.29 per credit hour for in-state tuition and fees ($100.84 tuition, $34.45 mandatory fees).
