Oklahoma Broadband Office Closes First Expansion Projects in Western Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY (OBV) — The Oklahoma Broadband Office has marked a milestone in its statewide connectivity effort with the completion of its first broadband expansion projects, delivering new high-speed fiber service to parts of Washita County and Greer County.

The projects, completed by Dobson Fiber, bring fiber-optic internet access to 366 homes and businesses in and around Burns Flat and Granite. State officials said the completed builds demonstrate that Oklahoma’s broadband strategy is moving from planning to execution, with public investment translating into real infrastructure that supports business growth, education, healthcare access, and workforce participation.

“These projects represent a major milestone for broadband expansion in Oklahoma,” said Oklahoma Broadband Office Executive Director Mike Sanders. “As more projects come online, we will continue to hold ourselves accountable for delivering reliable, high-speed internet to every corner of the state.”

The Legislature allocated $374 million in State and Local Fiscal Recovery Fund dollars to the Broadband Office in 2022 with a goal of ensuring at least 95% of Oklahomans have access to high-speed internet. To date, the Broadband Governing Board has awarded 159 projects statewide, with more than three-quarters currently under construction or nearing completion. ARPA-funded projects must be operational by the end of 2026.
