Trump Taps Kevin Warsh to Lead Federal Reserve

WASHINGTON (OBV) — President Donald Trump said Friday he will nominate former Federal Reserve governor Kevin Warsh to serve as the next chair of the Federal Reserve, according to reporting by The Wall Street Journal.

Warsh, who served on the Fed’s board of governors from 2006 to 2011 and played a key role during the 2008 financial crisis, would succeed Jerome Powell when Powell’s term as chair expires in mid-May, pending Senate confirmation. The nomination follows weeks of internal deliberation and represents one of Trump’s most consequential remaining personnel decisions, given the Fed’s role in setting interest rates and responding to financial instability.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Warsh has built a reputation as an inflation hawk and a sharp critic of the Fed’s post-pandemic policy framework, though he has more recently signaled openness to faster rate cuts. He would take over a central bank divided over the timing of further easing, with inflation still running above the Fed’s 2% target and political pressure mounting from the White House to lower rates.
