The University of Oklahoma Polytechnic Institute has received a $1 million grant from Google to launch the OUPI Cybersecurity Clinic, a new program designed to expand cybersecurity support for Oklahoma organizations while giving students hands-on training.

The Tulsa-based clinic will focus primarily on small manufacturers, nonprofit organizations and tribal businesses, providing faculty-supervised cybersecurity risk assessments. Students will work with participating organizations to identify risks, evaluate vulnerabilities and provide practical recommendations to improve resilience.

OUPI officials said the clinic is intended to help organizations that face growing cyber threats but may lack dedicated cybersecurity staff or access to formal assessment services. The clinic will also serve as an experiential learning environment, helping students build technical, analytical and client-facing skills.

“Cybersecurity is no longer just an IT issue — it is a business continuity and community resilience issue,” said Teri Reed, director of OUPI.
