OKLAHOMA CITY (OBV) – An Oklahoma City-based steel pipe supplier that has been in business for over 45 years has acquired a company located in California.

Donald B. Karchmer, the owner and CEO of International Pipe, announced this week the asset purchase of Big Bear Pipe & Steel, the formal name of which is R.B. Jacobson Inc., located in Hesperia, Calif.

“Our suite of companies now boasts over 100 years of combined experience in the steel pipe industry with 70,000+ tons of inventory, and over 80 acres of storage and fabrication capacity,” stated President/COO Darren Sparks. “The addition of Big Bear Pipe, led by General Manager Andrew Snyder, expands our distribution/fabrication capabilities on the west coast as well as providing rail service to our twenty acre facility.”

International Pipe has been in business since 1978 and has 60,000 tons of inventory. Its inventory supply increases to 70,000 tons with this acquisition, according to Dana Jordan, director of marketing for International Pipe.

In addition to Big Bear Pipe’s inventory, the acquisition also provides International Pipe a full fabrication shop.

International Pipe previously acquired Bison Pipe in Jerome, Idaho, and Bigfoot Pipe & Piling in Puyallup, Wash.

“It was natural to put a South California location that gives us a triangular location on the map,” Jordan said.

International Pipe supplies steel pipe ranging in diameter from 1/4″ to 120″, in numerous wall thicknesses, and with various finishes.

Most of International Pipe’s business is in the western part of the U.S., west of the Mississippi, but the company will do business with customers from any part of the country, Jordan said.
