OKLAHOMA CITY (OBV) — Emirates Global Aluminium and Century Aluminum have selected Bechtel to lead preparatory engineering for their planned primary aluminum plant in Inola, part of an EGA‑Century joint venture in which EGA holds 60% and Century 40%.

Bechtel’s scope includes plant design geared to a final investment decision and construction by the end of 2026, along with logistics planning and permitting support alongside sustainability consultancy ERM.

“Bechtel has been helping build America’s industrial base for more than a century, and we welcome the opportunity to support this important project in Oklahoma,” said Ailie MacAdam, President of Bechtel Mining & Metals. “We are bringing our experience in delivering U.S. megaprojects and our global track record in delivering aluminum facilities to help our customer move forward with confidence.”

The project is billed as the first new U.S. primary aluminum smelter since 1980, expected to double current domestic primary output and create 1,000 permanent jobs plus 4,000 construction jobs; it will use EGA’s latest EX reduction technology.

“Building the first American primary aluminum production plant in decades is a transformative project for America’s industrial revival, the strong economic future of Inola and Oklahoma, and for our company. Bechtel, with its leading experience in American industrial projects and aluminum projects around the world, will play a key role in the extensive work ongoing to make this project a reality,” EGA CEO Abdulnasser Bin Kalban said.
