Boeing lands $2 billion Space Force contract for military communications satellites
The Mobile User Objective System service-life extension contract covers two satellites designed to support secure voice and data communications for military users worldwide.
EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (OBV) — Boeing will build two next-generation military communications satellites under a U.S. Space Force contract valued at up to $2 billion.
The Mobile User Objective System Service Life Extension program, known as MUOS SLE, is designed to sustain and improve secure narrowband communications for military personnel operating on the ground, at sea, and in the air. Boeing is scheduled to deliver the first satellite in 2031.
The satellites will support secure voice and essential data connections in environments where reliable communications can be difficult, including dense urban areas, severe weather, and challenging terrain.
Boeing said the system will build on the company’s existing Ultra High Frequency communications experience and its 702MP satellite platform. The company also expects the program to increase communications capacity, reduce interference, and improve connectivity for military users.
The award extends Boeing’s role in the current MUOS constellation, for which it developed and delivered communications payloads.
