Tidwell urges permitting reform in Tulsa World op-ed
The AFP-Oklahoma director argued that federal delays threaten Oklahoma energy investment and ultimately raise costs for consumers.
Americans for Prosperity-Oklahoma State Director John Tidwell wrote in an op-ed published by the Tulsa World that Congress should pass U.S. Sen. Alan Armstrong’s American Energy and Mineral Infrastructure Act.
Tidwell argued that Oklahoma is well positioned to help meet rising U.S. energy demand, but unpredictable federal permitting can delay projects, increase construction costs, and discourage investment. He wrote that those added costs eventually reach consumers through higher utility bills.
The legislation, designated S. 4944, would streamline federal reviews for energy and mineral infrastructure, strengthen the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s role in interstate natural gas projects, and revise portions of the Clean Water Act and National Environmental Policy Act, according to Armstrong’s office.
Tidwell said a more predictable approval process would allow Oklahoma companies to invest, build infrastructure, and help meet the country’s growing demand for reliable energy.
