Sonic Drive-In makes massive donation in support of Oklahoma education

OKLAHOMA CITY (OBV) – Sonic Drive-In honored Teacher Appreciation Month by making a massive donation to support education efforts across the nation.

The popular, Oklahoma City-based fast food chain donated $1.5 million, matching public contributions, to DonorsChoose, a national nonprofit that allows individuals to donate directly to public school classroom requests submitted by teachers.

The donation, part of Sonic’s ongoing Limeades for Learning initiative, matched 50 percent of each donation made to all teacher requests and helping to fully fund nearly 15,300 projects from teachers and schools across the country.

“SONIC is invested in supporting the local communities served by our more than 3,500 locations, and we’re proud of the impact we’ve made over the past 14 years through Limeades for Learning,” said Lori Abou Habib, Chief Marketing Officer of SONIC. “We’re grateful to all the SONIC guests who joined us in celebrating teachers this month by donating to a classroom request on DonorsChoose, and those who continue to help us support public education by grabbing their favorite SONIC drink and having a portion of the purchase go towards helping a nearby public school.”

The SONIC Limeades for Learning initiative provides a portion of proceeds from every drink, slush and shake purchase to the SONIC Foundation, which supports local public education. SONIC has donated over $26 million to funding local classrooms since 2009.

The following teachers in the following Oklahoma communities received funding thanks to Sonic’s donation:

In Choctaw, Oklahoma, eight teachers from four schools received a combined donation of $1,856.00, including:

  • Mrs. Archer at Choctaw Elementary School for the project “A Little of This and A Little of That” for Grades PreK-2
  • Mrs. Nichole Harris at Choctaw Elementary School for the project “Series-ly Good Books” for Grades PreK-2
  • Mrs. Harvey at Choctaw High School for the project “Read to Succeed” for Grades 9-12
  • Mrs. Davis at Indian Meridian Elementary School for the project “Critical Thinking & Creativity in Literacy!” for Grades PreK-2
  • Mrs. Tracey at Indian Meridian Elementary School for the project “Fun Resources!” for Grades PreK-2
  • Ms. Q at Indian Meridian Elementary School for the project “Reporting for Turtle Duty!” for Grades PreK-2
  • Ms. Walker at Indian Meridian Elementary School for the project “Differentiated Reading Comprehension and Reading Responses” for Grades PreK-2
  • Mrs. Card at Nicoma Park Intermediate School for the project “Fresh and Clean!” for Grades 3-5


In Del City, Oklahoma, four teachers from two schools received a combined donation of $1,158.00, including:

  • Mrs. Wiszneauckas-Reeves at Del City Elementary School for the project “Sensory Room For All” for Grades PreK-2
  • Mr. Mitchell at Del City High School for the project “Let’s Get Organized!” for Grades 9-12
  • Mrs. Cooper at Del City High School for the project “Help! We Are Out Of Tape!” for Grades 9-12
  • Mrs. Hodges at Del City High School for the project “When in doubt dance it out” for Grades 9-12


In Midwest City, Oklahoma, two teachers from two schools received a combined donation of $292.00, including:

  • Mr. Brian (DeShazo) at Midwest City High School for the project “STEM for SpEd” for Grades 9-12
  • Mrs. Zinn at Soldier Creek Elementary School for the project “Fidget Seating” for Grades PreK-2


In Spencer, Oklahoma, two teachers from two schools received a combined donation of $257.00, including:

  • Ms. Johnson at Rogers Middle School for the project “Mustang Munch!” for Grades 3-5
  • Ms. Barker at Spencer Elementary School for the project “Kites and Moms” for Grades 3-5
