OKLAHOMA CITY (OBV) – A new runway at Wiley Post Airport is now open, a development local leaders say will strengthen northwest Oklahoma City’s economy and position the area for further growth.

Rep. Marilyn Stark, R-Bethany, whose district includes the airport, said the expansion will bring long-term benefits for businesses and residents alike.
“Wiley Post Airport is a key piece of our district’s infrastructure, contributing to economic vitality, job growth and community access,” Stark said. “This runway expansion represents more than asphalt—it’s about expanding opportunity, ensuring safety and setting the stage for even more investment in our region.”
The project is part of a broader effort to make Wiley Post “development-ready.” The airport supports more than 30 aviation businesses, hundreds of based aircraft, and a growing number of commercial and private flights.
The new runway is tied to the airport’s Northeast Hangar Development, which covers 70 acres of improvements including a taxiway, utility lines, and secured access from Rockwell Avenue.
“Northwest OKC is on the rise, and this expansion helps keep the momentum going,” Stark said. “This means more access for companies, more convenience for travelers and more growth for our local economy.”
Operated by the Oklahoma City Department of Airports, Wiley Post serves as a key reliever airport for Will Rogers World Airport.
