ADA, Okla. (OBV) — Chris Anoatubby took the oath of office June 26 as governor of the Chickasaw Nation, succeeding longtime Gov. Bill Anoatubby.
The oath ceremony took place at Ataloa Theatre on the East Central University campus in Ada. Bill Anoatubby previously announced his retirement three years into his 10th consecutive term as governor.
Chris Anoatubby served as Chickasaw Nation lieutenant governor before assuming the role. His nearly three decades of service to the tribe included work as a staff pharmacist, roles in commerce, and leadership positions in tribal government.
“It is an incredible honor and privilege to serve the Chickasaw Nation,” Gov. Chris Anoatubby said. “Together, we will continue to add to the pages of our tribe’s rich history of solidarity and self-determination.”
Bill Anoatubby said the new governor brings experience across tribal programs and operations, as well as a long record of service to Chickasaw citizens.
The new governor said the Chickasaw Nation will continue focusing on education, health, law enforcement, economic opportunity, and partnerships that support the tribe’s mission to enhance the quality of life of Chickasaw people.
“Our government is strong, our economic foundation is stable, our culture is thriving, and we have every reason to be confident in our future together,” Chris Anoatubby said.
