CLAREMORE, Okla. (OBV) — Rogers State University will seek approval from the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education for a three-year bachelor’s degree designed to address workforce needs in northeast Oklahoma.

The proposed Bachelor of Applied Workforce Development would offer two options: Automation Manufacturing and Digital Systems, and Cyber Defense and Digital Forensics.

“The workforce needs of Oklahoma are changing, so the education of the workforce must adapt,” RSU President Don Raleigh said. “This accelerated degree was developed after extensive conversations with our workforce partners.”

Raleigh said RSU’s proximity to the MidAmerica Industrial Park, Tulsa Ports, and Tulsa’s aerospace and defense industries positions the university to serve employers in high-demand sectors.

The program would emphasize applied learning and allow students to earn credentials along the way. RSU said reducing the number of credit hours required for graduation would help students enter the workforce sooner and at a lower cost.

The degree would offer multiple entry and exit points for traditional students, working adults, career changers, military learners, and CareerTech graduates.

RSU has reported the number of credit hours required for graduation would help students enter the workforce sooner and at a lower cost.

The degree would offer growth in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics programs and recently began construction on the $35 million Robson Center for Science and Technology.

The university serves more than 3,400 students and is the only public residential university in the Tulsa metropolitan area.
