OKLAHOMA CITY (OBV) – Oklahoma City Will Rogers International Airport now has a nonstop international flight, courtesy of American Airlines.

American Airlines will offer a nonstop flight to Cancun, Mexico, out of Will Rogers International beginning Nov. 8.

Oklahoma City Mayor David Hold said the new service is a major milestone for the airport.

“To finally welcome a nonstop international flight to Oklahoma City for the first time in a generation is a historic moment for us,” Holt said. “This milestone is a testament to our city’s renaissance, as well as a reflection of our willingness to invest in ourselves. This would not have been possible without the vision of our airport leadership to construct the necessary facilities and their persistence in marketing this opportunity to the carriers. Our gratitude to them, as well as American Airlines.”

The nonstop flight to Cancun will be flown every Saturday from Nov. 8 through April 4, according to airport officials.

“We are excited American Airlines will be offering international flights to Cancun this winter,” Will Rogers International Airport Director Jeff Mulder said. “American Airlines is a great partner, and we appreciate their support of OKC and our community. We are nearing completion of our customs facility, which will allow this new international service to become a reality. This type of new international nonstop service elevates OKC to a new level and offers our travelers another quality-of-life improvement.”

American’s Director of International Network Planning Philippe Puech said the company is excited about the new nonstop international service out of OKC’s airport.

“American is proud to announce international service from Oklahoma City International Airport,” Puech said. “With service to customer-favorite Cancun, Mexico, joining nonstop flights to eight destinations across the United States, American offers a comprehensive network that can take Oklahomans anywhere they wish to travel.”

Tickets go on sale March 31. Go to aa.com to book your flight.
