U.S. private employers added an average of 12,000 jobs a week through Aug. 22
ADP’s preliminary data showed a modest pickup in job growth, though the pace remained below early June levels.
U.S. private employers added an average of 12,000 jobs per week during the four weeks ending Aug. 22, according to ADP Research’s NER Pulse.
The four-week moving average increased from the preceding reading, signaling a modest improvement after hiring slowed through much of the summer. The average remained well below roughly 30,000 weekly job gains shown in early June.
The figures measure net changes in private-sector employment using ADP payroll data. The 12,000 figure represents average weekly growth across the four-week period, rather than the number of jobs added during the final week alone.
ADP adjusts the estimates for seasonal patterns and publishes them with a two-week lag to allow additional payroll information to arrive. The figures are preliminary and may change as more data becomes available.
The national figures do not provide a separate estimate for Oklahoma.
