OKLAHOMA CITY (OBV) – Oklahoma’s best and brightest students will gather in Oklahoma City on Wednesday to compete in Oklahoma’s finals for the 2024 National Civics Bee.

The State Chamber of Oklahoma will host the Civics Bee at the Will Rogers Theatre. The competition starts at 10 a.m.

“We’re so excited to kick off such a fun, new way to encourage Oklahoma students to engage in civics with a unique platform to demonstrate their knowledge,” said Chad Warmington, President and CEO of The State Chamber. “It’s an awesome opportunity for students who want to get active in government. We’re hoping this event will grow annually and encourage more and more Oklahoma students to get involved.”

The Civics Bee encourages students across the nation to learn about government processes and contribute to their communities.

The Civic Trust® of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation is partnering with The State Chamber to present the competition in Oklahoma.

The finals competition features middle school students who won local competitions across the state. The event seeks to inspire students to become better informed about American democracy, engage respectfully and constructively in the community, and build greater trust in others and institutions.

Students will participate in a live quiz event and answer questions from judges to test their civic knowledge. The finalists and top winners will receive various prizes, including $1,000 cash for the first-place student. The top winner will also be invited to advance to the national round of the competition in Washington, D.C.

“The finals in Oklahoma City will inspire middle schoolers to become better informed about American democracy, to engage respectfully and constructively in the community, and to build greater trust in others and institutions,” said Brent Skarky, senior vice president of communications and marketing for the Chamber.

Visit The State Chamber website to learn more about the competition.
