OKLAHOMA CITY (OBV) — Adam Maxey, vice president of government affairs for The State Chamber of Oklahoma, met with Leadership Elk City Class XII this week during the group’s legislative day at the Oklahoma State Capitol.

The May 5-6 visit was designed to give participants a closer look at state government, including House and Senate floor proceedings, meetings with elected officials and a tour of the Capitol. The agenda also included meetings with Rep. Nick Archer, Sen. Brent Howard, and State Treasurer Todd Russ.

Maxey spoke with the class about The State Chamber’s Oklahoma Competes framework, which focuses on strengthening Oklahoma’s long-term economic competitiveness through policy areas including education, workforce, innovation, and business climate.

The discussion included Oklahoma’s recent literacy reform efforts, including the Strong Readers Act, as well as broader activity at the Capitol as lawmakers move through the final stretch of the 2026 legislative session.

Participants asked questions about the public policy process, literacy implementation and how legislative decisions connect to economic development in communities across the state.

Leadership Elk City’s Capitol visit was part of the program’s broader effort to connect civic-minded professionals with state leaders and give participants a better understanding of how government decisions affect local communities.
