OKLAHOMA (OBV) – Oklahoma’s growing green energy industry is looking for some talented women and men to fill key jobs within the industry.
The Oklahoma Department of Commerce (ODOC) will host a virtual listening session from 10:30 a.m. to noon Tuesday, July 18, on Oklahoma green energy/renewable/sustainable career opportunities.
The jobs will be essential to the green industry workforce over the next five to 10 years, according to ODOC officials.
ODOC officials said the listening session’s goals are as follows:
- Gather baseline data to establish recruitment and retention needs
- Understand Green Energy industry projected job growth in Oklahoma and the demand for these careers over the next 5-10 years
- Identify Oklahoma businesses interested in partnering with ODOC to form paid Green Energy or related industry apprenticeships
- Identify the appropriate position terminology, job titles and job tasks found in Oklahoma
ODOC seeks industry input from individuals with the following Green Energy career backgrounds:
- Human resource staff
- Business owners producing green energy components or complete products
- Government employees impacted by green energy employment in Oklahoma
- Workforce development staff
- Vocational education or vocational rehabilitation counselors
- Employment agency staff
- Vocational and four-year college educational representatives
- Industry recruiters
- Other individuals working in support of green energy sector employment
Examples of Green Energy positions are as follows:
- Solar technician
- Wind turbine technician
- Hydrogen technician
- Industrial mechanic
- Electric vehicle auto mechanic
- Drone command and capture
- Battery storage technician
- Electric vehicle battery mechanic
- Geothermal technician
- Geographic information systems mapping engineer
- Other industries supporting the above positions and others
