WASHINGTON (OBV) — U.S. private employers added 98,000 jobs in June, according to the latest ADP National Employment Report.
Education and health services led job growth with 48,000 new jobs, followed by trade, transportation, and utilities with 15,000 and financial activities with 14,000. Information added 7,000 jobs, while manufacturing and natural resources and mining each added 5,000.
Hiring was weaker in several sectors, including leisure and hospitality, which added 2,000 jobs for a sixth consecutive month of limited growth.
Small employers with fewer than 50 workers added 53,000 jobs in June, while large employers added 25,000 jobs. Mid-sized businesses added 29,000 jobs.
“The pace of hiring is telling a story of both supply and demand,” ADP Chief Economist Nela Richardson said. “We know it’s taking people longer to find work, but there also are signs of labor supply constraints in certain industries. For now, the overall effect is a slowdown in job creation.”
The ADP National Employment Report is based on aggregated and anonymized payroll data from more than 26 million U.S. employees and is produced with the Stanford Digital Economy Lab.
